2025 NPMA Legislative Day

MPMA Board Members Advocate for Michigan Pest Management Industry at NPMA Legislative Day 2025

Washington, D.C. – March 11, 2025 — Board members of the Michigan Pest Management Association (MPMA) proudly represented Michigan’s pest management professionals at the National Pest Management Association’s (NPMA) Legislative Day, held March 9–11 at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C. The delegation engaged with Michigan’s Congressional representatives to discuss key federal issues impacting the pest control industry.

During Capitol Hill meetings, the MPMA delegation advocated for:

  • Pesticide Preemption: Urging the inclusion of pesticide preemption in the 2025 Farm Bill to ensure that pesticide regulations are managed at the state level by scientific experts, preventing a patchwork of local ordinances.
  • Rodenticide Access: Supporting a “professionals only” approach to the use of rodenticides, ensuring that pest management professionals retain access to effective tools while the EPA reviews potential reclassification.
  • Global Malaria Control: Backing continued funding for the President’s Malaria Initiative in the 2026 fiscal year to combat the resurgence of malaria, both globally and domestically.
  • 25-C Tax Credit: Advocating for the maintenance of the Efficient Energy Home Improvement Tax Credit, which benefits homeowners needing to replace insulation due to pest infestations.

“Our participation in Legislative Day is crucial for ensuring that Michigan’s pest management professionals have a voice in federal policy decisions,” said Steve Alcala, President of MPMA. “By engaging directly with our legislators, we can advocate for science-based regulations that protect public health and the environment.”

NPMA Legislative Day 2025 brought together pest management professionals from across the nation to discuss industry challenges and policy priorities. The event featured keynote speeches, expert panels, and networking opportunities, culminating in advocacy sessions on Capitol Hill.
